Situated in the quaint town of Beychac-et-Caillau, nestled just west of Libourne along the southern bank of the Dordogne River, sits Domaine de Galouchey. Their vineyard spans merely a single hectare, painstakingly planted by hand in 2002 on previously untouched soil. Alongside the typical Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon varietals, they also cultivate Carmenère, Petit Verdot, and a selection of white grape varieties—nine in total—all of which contribute to the signature "Le Galouchey" cuvée.

Domaine de Galouchey has the right to label its wines under the prestigious "Bordeaux" appellation. However, they deliberately opt to declassify it as a "table wine" from one vintage to another, aiming to pique curiosity. Taking their rebellious spirit further, they also brand it as "Vin de Jardin" or "Wine from the Garden." This decision is a response to the "Vins de Garage" or "garage wines" trend, prominent in Saint-Emilion during the 1990s. For Marco Pelletier and his partners, wine is a product of nature, not a product of a garage. With their vineyard covering less than one hectare, it's more akin to a garden in their perspective.

“For me, the wine must be greedy, it must make you want to finish the bottle. To enjoy drinking it, I used to say that we must begin by listening to its story.”

-Marco Pelletier

"In the glass, it’s a deep, nearly opaque ruby-black in color, but in no way monolithic or over-extracted on the palate—this is balanced, brooding, exceedingly elegant Bordeaux. It delivers saturated aromas and flavors of violets, black plum, and blueberry mixed with cocoa powder, leather, crushed gravel, and tobacco. It is plush, silky, and opulent but with a mineral, wet-clay imprint that roots it in the Right Bank. Decant it about 30 minutes before enjoying at about 60 degrees in large Bordeaux stems; over the next 3-5 years, this wine is going to be singing, ready to impress anew each time. Take our advice and don’t stop at one. Cheers!"
